Eric Javits became fascinated by the way different forms could flatter the face after studying painting and sculpture at the Rhode Island School of Design. After discovering the art of Millinery, a medium that connected his love of art with his interest in fashion, he went on to open his womens hat business in 1985. Within a few years he became known as the hat designer of choice with many prominent figures and faces in the entertainment industry wearing his designs. His signature Squishee product was launched ten years later, designed in response to the changing lifestyle needs of women and concern of the sun’s damaging rays. Designed to be easily packable and rollable, the Squishee concept evolved to include a vast collection of accessories including handbags and footwear. An artist in his own right, Eric Javits has contributed to the fashion industry by creating designs with charm and endurance. Uncompromising design and intelligent luxury are the hallmark of the Eric Javits brand. He is a member of the Council of Fashion Designers of America and his designs are included in the archives of the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute. He has also been featured in magazines such as Vogue, W Magazine, Vanity Fair and Bazaar was recognised as Hat Designer of the Year and Hat Designer of the Decade 1990-1999.
