The Grand Bazaar

There's a particular thrill in finding something you weren't looking for. Inspired by the colour, texture and abundance of a grand bazaar, this story is about the pieces that catch the eye and stay on the mind: a print that dares to stand out, a saturated colour, a silhouette that takes up room, a detail too good to overlook. The wardrobe may already be in order. These are the pieces that make it unmistakably yours.

Animal print has never been one to blend into the background. Against the deep garnet tones of SMYTHE tailoring, a snakeskin-patterned coat brings irreverence to an otherwise sharply tailored look. The richness of the red, the warmth of the brown and the coat's dramatic line create an arresting contrast, with enough common ground in the palette to bring it all together.

Florals take on a moodier disposition in the company of burgundy and chocolate brown. An asymmetrical skirt peeks out beneath an oversized 'S Max Mara coat, while a cream knit and glossy oxblood bag soften the transition between patterns and textures. There's something romantic about the pairing, without a hint of preciousness.

A ba&sh cardigan sets the tone before anything else does. Its kaleidoscope of blue, burgundy and gold brings colour to a dark, crocodile-effect skirt, while a silk scarf adds another layer of pattern. The silver Mansur Gavriel clutch catches the light against the softer knit, bringing a cooler note to the warmth of the palette.

Red makes its entrance in the form of an American Vintage cardigan, draped over a richly embroidered Essentiel Antwerp shirt. Against the cool blue shirting, green embroidery and dark denim, the colour takes on a life of its own. A floral Liberty London tote picks up the same scarlet thread, lending the whole look a sense of spontaneity.

Some pieces are simply too distinctive to save for a special occasion. Take Tagliatore's leopard-print coat or STAUD's sculptural Porcupine Clutch, each commanding attention in its own way. A lavender scarf introduces an unexpected softness against the animal print, while olive shirting provides an earthy contrast. Together, they make for the sort of outfit that invites a second look.

Here, an INOUI EDITIONS scarf brings a flourish of pattern to striped shirting, while Cambio corduroy introduces an earthy counterpoint. The plush shearling jacket lends warmth and generosity to the outfit's line, offset by the compact shape of a pomegranate-coloured clutch. The bag is an unexpected final note, vivid against the softer, more muted layers.

An elegant silhouette doesn't always need to follow the body. The long, sweeping lines of a Harris Wharf London coat frame a fluid printed STAUD dress, creating a striking interplay between structure and movement. With the coat shrugged off the shoulders, the dress and its matching patterned bag come into their own. There's drama in the proportions, even when the pieces themselves feel relaxed.

Checks on checks, with no intention of playing it safe. In this look, GANNI pulls plaids of different scales into one palette of orange, cream and green, so the patterns layer without competing. Dark, wide-leg AGOLDE denim gives all of it room to breathe, while the embroidered bag is the last thing the eye finds. Proof that a shared palette can hold almost any mismatch.

Volume takes yet another form here. HiSO’s reversible shearling is boldly worn over a vivid orange knit and wide houndstooth trousers, with a lavender bow and leopard-print bag adding to the clash. Below, Oakwood’s generously cut cream coat, with its rounded sleeves, contrast trim and toggle fastenings, sets the intricate FARM Rio print beneath it in sharp relief, each piece keeping its own outline. Both looks make a case for taking up a little more room.

The best additions to a wardrobe aren’t always the most practical or predictable. Sometimes it’s a colour that changes the palette, a print that rewrites the rules or a silhouette unlike anything already in the closet. After all, personal style is shaped just as much by the pieces that find us as the ones we set out to find.
